The Islington Schools Running League emerged from the good will and enthusiasm of the participating schools, the officials and marshals, and has been a joy to organise.
However after four successful years the machine of state has finally caught up, and I anticipate the joy will be replaced by the drudge of hard work. Under such circumstances I don't believe I could guarantee a good quality and safe event without moving the league onto an income generating business model.
I am not interested in setting up such a business so am taking the time honoured exit advice of, quit while you are ahead.
I still have plenty of energy to organise athletics competition, although it is possible these will be restricted to the confines of an Athletics Track.
Apologies to the schools and pupils who I know will be disappointed by this abrupt ending.
I plan to retrieve the trophies and have them freshly engraved for the 2015/2016 season declaring the current league leaders as Champions. I will deliver the engraved trophies to the schools as follows:
- Girls Years 7 & 8 Champions - Mossbourne Academy
- Boys Years 7 & 8 Champions - St.Aloysius' College
- Girls Years 9, 10 & 11 Champions - Mossbourne Academy
- Boys Years 9, 10, & 11 Champions - Stoke Newington School
As regards the individual trophies, rather than counting the best 4 races out of 6, I think it better to count the best 3 races out of 4. On this basis the individual winners are:
- Girls Years 7 & 8 - Stella Thomas-Epstein of Mossbourne Academy
- Boys Years 7 & 8 - Theo Machin Paley of Stoke Newington School
- Girls Years 9, 10 & 11 - Felix Water of Mossbourne Academy
- Boys Years 9, 10, & 11 - David Keto of St.Aloysius' College
Individual Trophies for these Champions will also be delivered to the schools.
I hope to be meeting with most of the people receiving this email over the coming weeks, months and years during various athletics related activities. Until then, thank you again for your support.
